National Service Scheme

The NSS unit of Joya Gogoi College was established in the year, January 2010. There are two NSS units which includes both boys and Girls. Each unit consist of 50 students/volunteers for a period of at least two years. One programme officer is appointed for each unit.

NSS is a noble experiment in academic expansion. It encapsulates the spirit of voluntary work among the students and the teachers to sustain community interaction. It brings academic institutions closer to the society. It shows how to combine knowledge and action to achieve the desirable results leading to community development.

Motto of NSS
The motto of NSS is “NOT ME BUT YOU”. This reflects the essence of democratic living by:
1. Upholding the need for selfless service 2. Appreciation of the other person’s point of view 3. Also showing consideration for fellow human beings.

Objective of the NSS

1. To make intellectually alive and society responsible citizen  2. To stand as an institution of higher education as per the expectation of the society  3. To organize vocational/career oriented/job oriented training programmes in different field of work to the rural students 4. To create ideal citizen of tomorrow for emerging India 5. To provide necessary information for learning 6. To maintain discipline, punctuality and also accountability 8. To inculcate social, moral and spiritual values.

Duties of NSS Volunteers

To establish rapport with the people in the project area.

Identify needs, problems and resource of the community.

Plan programmes and carry out the plans.

Relates his learning and experienced towards findings solutions to the problems identifies and

Record the activities in his work diary systematically and assess the progress periodically and effect changes as and when needed.

Code of conduct for NSS Volunteers

All volunteers shall work under the guidance of a group leader nominated by the programme officer.

They shall make themselves worthy of the confidence and cooperation of the group/community leadership.

They shall scrupulously avoid entering any controversial issues.

They shall keep day-to-day record of their activities/experienced in the enclosing pages of the diary and submit to the Group Leader/Programme Officer for periodic guidance.

It is obligatory on the part of every volunteer to wear the NSS BADGE while on work.
