About the college

Joya Gogoi College was established on the 25th of November 1991 and is situated about 20 K.M. away from heart of the Golaghat town. Eminent scholar and litterateur, Ex- finance minister and former speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly late Jiba Kanta Gogoi was the founder of this educational institution. The college was named in the glorious memory of his mother late Joya Gogoi. From its modest inception as an Arts college, Joya Gogoi College has now developed into its present stature of a famous full-fledged Degree College, imparting higher education in the Arts stream and recently introducing science stream in both H.S. and degree standard. The college also has three post-graduate departments, viz. Assamese, Political Science and Education under KKHSOU. It is affiliated to the Dibrugarh University and is registered under 2(F) and 12(B) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. The college has the distinction of being assessed and accredited by the NAAC twice in 2004 and 2011 and was graded by Grade C+ and Grade B respectively. The college has done excellent pioneering work in different branches of education. It has generated talents for pursuit of truth, creation, and dissemination of knowledge, and has drawn students from its adjoining areas. Joya Gogoi College is proud to be the ‘grooming ground’ for several eminent personalities in the field of politics, academics, beauracracy, judiciary, etc. The college celebrated its silver jubilee in the year 2016. The college has developed its own unique philosophy and vision, mission and programmes of action.

AIMS and Objectives of the College

Based on the experience of rural environment and contemporary overall changing perspectives the college aims at :

(1) Imparting quality higher education to the socio-economically backward rural communities living in this remote part of Golaghat District.

(2) Becoming a catalyst of all-round development of students in particular and neighboring communities in general.

(3) Generating awareness and execution of plans for self-resource mobilization of the institution.

(4) Providing vocational/ career oriented training programmes in different fields of work to the rural students/people, subject to the institutional funds in this regard.

(5) Working for preservation and dissipation of multi-coloured art and culture of different communities living in this locality.

To achieve the above broad objectives, the college has taken newer initiatives to form and execute a number of communities/ unions/ cells and their relevant programmes from time to time.

COLLEGE CAMPUS

The college has a clean, beautiful and suitable academic atmosphere having four campuses i.e. A, B, C & D. The existing Campuses A & B are situated at the heart of Khumtai and along both sides of the historic Dhodar Ali. Another campus C is half a kilometer away from the A & B Campuses of the College. The Campus B is allotted for the major class rooms, the museum, the Office for the Career Guidance and Counseling Cell, the Office for the Alumni Association and Guardians Association. The Administrative Block, class rooms, Library, Auditorium, Teachers’ Common room,the girls hostel , medicinal garden, Hand Embroidery, cutting and tailoring, Hair style and beautician centre etc are located in campus B and Canteen, etc. are conveniently located in the campus B. Other campuses i.e. C & D are allotted for indoor stadium, play ground, agriculture and other purposes.
